Xavier Guardans (b. 1954, Barcelona) is a fine art photographer living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Guardans has had an extensive commercial career publishing his work in major editorial magazines and worldwide advertising campaigns, while continuously pursuing his personal bodies of work.
Guardans is a unique photographer who explores his fascination with nature by shooting on location with only natural light. Through his widespread travels for extended periods of time to such far-flung places as Kenya, Japan, China, Patagonia, Egypt, and Guatemala, to name a few, Guardans demonstrates an extraordinary ability to be comfortable in so many different worlds. His photography is characterized by impressive technical and aesthetic skills, a gifted sense of composition, and an underlying sensibility of distinctive and rare humanism. His reductive eye imparts his photographs with the power to concentrate things to their essential beauty and ultimate truths.
Select exhibitions include group exhibitions at the Museo De Arte Contemporáneo de Madrid, Museo de Arte Abstracto Español in Cuenca, and the Museu d’art Espanyol Contemporani in Palma, and participation in Photokina in Cologne, Arcomadrid, and Photoespaña. His work is held in public collections at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and the Center of Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona, as well as various private collections around the world.
Guardans launched in 2013 a long-term project to publish a series of five volumes, publishing Windows in 2014 and Traveling Lights in 2015 with Damiani Editore.
